OUR WORK

Dun Laoghaire Youth Information Centre is a free and confidential one-stop shop for information that is relevant to you as a young person. Its aim is to empower you to make informed decisions and positive life choices. It is a place where you can come to talk to a trained professional about whatever questions you may have and know that the whole service is there primarily to cater for you. The centre is a lively, friendly and inclusive place open to all, whether it be you yourself or someone advocating on your behalf.

Youth Information enables you to

  • develop your skills and abilities
  • avail of services, facilities and opportunities
  • actively participate at local, national and international level

Essentially, the youth information service acts as a first point of contact for you, identifying where help can be found and will support you in availing of that help.

Who is it for?
The service is aimed at 15 to 25 year olds although a lot more people of different ages use the centre and they are just as welcome!
What questions are asked?
Questions range from the simple to the more problematic, from someone who wishes to learn sign language to someone who is being thrown out of their flat. If you have left school early and want to know your options, if you’re going to college and want to apply for a grant, if you’ve lost your job and need to get the dole – all these questions can be answered for you.

Sometimes questions are too detailed for the centre to deal with - legal advice, personal problems which would need counselling, homelessness - but we make the initial contact or refer you to the relevant service.

Topics covered include accommodation, Education, Work, Money, Travel, Sports & Leisure, Health Matters, Your Rights, Local Politics , Getting Involved Along with information, the centre provides other services such as student travel cards, CV typing service, filling out application forms, free internet access.
