Youth Menal Health DLR are looking for Young people to attend an 8 week training course on youth mental health in order to form a youth panel. Theese young people will be the voice of their peers and organise events and the like to promote possitive mental health in the area. We would like to invite any interested Young people to attend an information evening aroung Youth mental health in the cafe next thursday the 19th January at 7pm.
The training will take place the following wednesday from 8-9.30 for 8 weeks. This is your chance to make a big difference and get something fancy to put on your C.V!! any one that is interested just turn up next thursday and bring a friend, spread the word. if you want to know more you can ring me on 085 1783573. “The Beat” Youth Cafe will be open every Friday from 7pm - 10pm, starting this Friday 25th November!!!
Cafe is located off Eblana Avenue, Dun Laoghaire (laneway beside Credit Union)
It is for 15 - 18yrs and entry is 2 euro. Everyone welcome. Each Friday will have a different theme with music, games and Open Mike Night.

The Council’s third annual countywide Social Inclusion Week programme kicks off next week, and with over 70 events on offer between 8th – 15th October 2011, there will be something for everyone in DLR to enjoy!

Dun Laoghaire Youth Information in conjunction with Dun Laoghaire Local Drugs Task Force will have a stand in Bloomfields Shopping Centre on Wednesday 12th Oct to coincide with Social Inclusion Week and will have lots of information for young people.

The new Student Travelcard will be available from Thursday 1st September. Dun Laoghaire Youth Information Centre is the local agent - just call in with your student card and a completed application form and €15. There is no need to bring a passport photo as we will do it by webcam.

Maybe you want to get a job instead or just take a Gap Year which can provide a breathing space or “time out” from the pressures of studying. We have produced a free publication called “What’s Next” which explores all these options.
Dun Laoghaire Youth Information Centre is also holding an exhibition on ‘What’s Next’ in the Bloomfield’s Shopping Centre on Tuesday 30th August, and Wednesday 31St August and throughout the months of August & September in the Youth Information Centre.

Summer time is on its way and with it comes long hours in the sun and the increase worry for parents to fill the days with interesting things to do. This is the time to start thinking about those long summer months and planning how to occupy your kids before the boredom (and your panic!) sets in.
Dun Laoghaire Youth Service run summer programmes through their area-based projects throughout Dun Laoghaire VEC area, namely Central Dun Laoghaire, Ballybrack, Cois Cairn, Loughlinstown, Meadowlands, Sallynoggin. Contact 01 2806147 for further details.
Throughout Dun Laoghaire there are organisations that offer summer camps with various activities ranging from specific sports to arts & crafts, cooking or computers.
For older teenagers who may wish to get a summer job, we can help with cv preparation, where to look for jobs, and information on their rights & entitlements as a young person working. Older teenagers may wish to learn a skill such as internet design, animation or gain experience through voluntary work.

Youth mental Health - DLR are holding a lunch time lecture in Sallynoggin Youth & Community Centre, Pearse St, Sallynoggin on Wednesday 11th May @ 12.30- 13.30
The talk is on The Effects of Parental Separation . What can we do to help?

Youth Mental Health Dun Laoghaire Rathdown was established in November 2010 specifically to look at promoting positive youth mental health in the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area. A number of talks and other events are being planned and arranged by this group to run throughout the year.
Further details of events targeting Youth Mental Health for parents, professionals and young people will be posted in the coming weeks and months. If you are interested in receiving notification on these events, Ph: Dun Laoghaire VEC on 01 2147200.
Also for your information, a youth panel will be developed which will be made up of young people (15 – 18year olds), living in the region. This youth committee will be central to the shaping of the programme of events and future of this initiative. It is hoped this group will take part in training and leading events during the year. If anyone is interested at getting involved with this group (whether they have experienced personal mental health issues or not), they should contact Emma on 086-8401046.
